Vote for the Iowa State Cyclones Player of the Game vs Missouri

Iowa State may have played its best game of the year in the loss to #13 Missouri.  A Cyclone team that has struggled to make big plays all year, finally made a couple against the Tigers.

Devin McDowell had the first big play on a 25 yard interception return for a TD.  It was the first defensive touchdown for ISU this season.

Alexander Robinson broke two runs of more than 30 yards.  The biggest play was a 37 yard touchdown run on 4th and 1.

Marquis Hamilton made a great play on a fade route in the end zone for his first touchdown as a Cyclone.

Bret Meyer had his best game of the year throwing for one touchdown and rushing for another.  Meyer completed nearly 70% of his passes against a tough Tiger defense.

Cyclone Player of the Week - Week 8: WR Marquis Hamilton

The top vote getter in the Cyclone Player of the Week voting for week 8 with 48% of the vote is WR Marquis Hamilton . The sophomore wide receiver from Oklahoma had seven catches for 88 yards and rushed 4 times for 8 yards.  Hamilton nearly had a big special teams play as well,  as he just missed blocking a first quarter punt.

I can’t say I agree with the voting this week.  I really felt like the award should have went to a defensive player.  It is not everyday you see a Cyclone team shut out Oklahoma for more than a half.  However it is up to the fans to decide and we don’t use Diebold machines to tally the votes so we are unable to rig the results.

Note:  A defensive player hasn’t won the Cyclone Player of the Week all year.

The Cyclones had an opportunity to upset #4 Oklahoma, but couldn’t quite get the job done.  ISU showed marked improvement after getting beat up by Texas the week prior.  Several Cyclone players had impressive performances in the loss.

Iowa State Cyclones - Oklahoma Sooners Prediction

The Cyclones haven’t played well for all 60 minutes in any game in 2007 and I don’t expect that to change this week.  Iowa State was clearly overmatched by Texas last weekend and Oklahoma has more talent than the Longhorns.  ISU will need a near perfect performance to stay in this game.  I really hope I am wrong, but it could get ugly.

Game Prediction: Oklahoma 63 Iowa State 10

Despite the bleak outlook on the game, I am really looking forward to getting to Ames.  Why?Tailgating, great weather, college football and the hope for a huge upset.

The Iowa State football team is struggling, but I have faith things are going to turn around sooner rather than later.   Why? Recruiting
