Game Balls

  • QB Jared Barnett- Played well in his first home start.  Ran for 125 yards and threw for 175 yards with a tough wind at Jack Trice Stadium.
  • WR Albert Gary – Filled in very admirably for Darius Reynolds.  Gary caught 5 balls for 57 yards.
  • WR/KR Jarvis West – Continues to get more involved with the offense.  Jarvis had 89 all-purpose yards including 54 on some fancy kickoff returns.
  • K Zach Guyer - Was perfect again going 2 for 2 on field goals and 1 for 1 on extra points.  Hit the game winner with 4:30 left on the clock.
  • RB Jeff Woody - Finished off the game with 4 runs for 45 yards on the final drive, had 61 yards overall on 9 carries.
  • WR Aaron Horne – Scored the only touchdown and had two catches for 31 yards.
  • LB A.J. Klein -  A.J. was all over the field: 9 tackles, a blocked field goal, a sack, a forced fumble, etc. etc.
  • DT Stephen Ruempolhamer - Had 4 tackles from his defensive tackle spot and his sack forced KU to punt on their last possession.
  • LB Jake Knott – Led the team with 10 tackles.  It looks like he is getting closer to being healthy.
  • S Durrell Givens/S Deon Broomfield/OL Jacob Gannon – Injuries forced all three into action and they all performed very well.

Iowa State at Texas Tech Game Breakdown and Photo Gallery

Game Balls

  • Coaching Staff - The game plan was a masterpiece and the players were “ALL IN” even after four straight tough conference losses.  The Cyclones dominated on offense, defense and special teams.  Well done coaching staff!
  • Defense – It is hard to single any one out in a unit that completely shut down one of the best offenses in college football.  The Cyclone D held the high-powered Tech offense to just 290 yards and 7 points.  The defense did not allow a Red Raider TD pass, breaking Tech’s streak of 69 straight games.
  • Offensive Line – 67 rushes for 368 yards; time of possession: ISU 40 minutes, TT 20 minutes; enough said.
  • QB Jared Barnett - It will be a very memorable first start for Mr. Barnett.  The offense executed the game plan to perfection and Jared was the maestro.
  • RB James White - James was a workhorse carrying the ball 31 times for 138 yards and a touchdown.  He is becoming more involved with the passing game as well; he caught 3 balls for 19 yards.
  • WR Josh Lenz -  Josh was the #1 receiver again with 4 grabs for 74 yards, he also did a great job of handling Tech’s nine punts.
  • K Zach Guyer - Guyer has really stepped up his game the last few weeks and made the kicking game a strength for Iowa State.  Guyer made his two field goal attempts and all 5 PAT’s.

  • LB Jake Knott - The leader of a Cyclone defense that kept Iowa State in the game after several turnovers inside the ISU red zone.  Jake had 8 tackles.
  • RB James White - Rushed 11 times for 64 yards and a touchdown.  James had another 100+ yards called back after holding penalties.
  • DE Patrick Neal -  Neal continues to emerge.  He had a big time sack early in the game that saved ISU points.
  • WR Chris Young- Took advantage of his playing time with 3 catches for 41 yards.  Made a nice catch on the first touchdown reception of his career, an 18 yard pass from Steele Jantz in the fourth quarter.

  • WR Darius Reynolds - Money lived up to his nickname making big play after big play in the Cyclone victory.
  • WR Josh Lenz - Josh continues to do everything well.  He threw for a touchdown and led ISU in receptions with 6.
  • DE Patrick Neal -  Neal had one of his best games as a Cyclone getting 8 tackles and bringing consistent pressure on the QB.
  • LB Jake Knott - Knott is clearly not playing at 100%, but he turned in a gutty effort leading Iowa State with 11 tackles.
  • LB Matt Tau’fo’ou - Matt had a limited number of plays, but he was very physical when he was in the game, and he made the most of his time with 7 tackles
  • DT Stephen Ruempolhamer - Dutch made two huge plays, getting an interception early and recovering a fumble in the second half.
  • K Zach Guyer – Didn’t do anything special, but was perfect on PAT’s and made his only field goal attempt (the first of his career).

Game Balls

Darius "Money" Reynolds gets a thumbs up from us after his 85 yard, two touchdown performance against Iowa

  • QB Steele Jantz – Steele had a game that will be talked about by Iowans for a long time to come.  Jantz continues to make big plays when the Cyclones have their backs against the wall.
  • LB Matt Tau’fo’ou - Matt had his best game as a Cyclone, #45 was very stout against the run.
  • CB’s Leonard Johnson and Jeremy Reeves -  Marvin McNutt and Keenan Davis were pretty quiet.  The undersized corners did a great job against two tall and talented receivers.
  • WR Darius “Money” Reynolds - Darius finally earned his nickname.  Money had several key catches including two touchdowns and a 40 yard grab on 3rd and 20 in the fourth quarter.
  • RB Shontrelle Johnson - 175 total yards, including 108 on the ground with just 18 carries against a tough Iowa run defense.
  • WR Josh Lenz – Came up big in the return game with143 yards, including a 51 yard kick return and a 21 yard punt return.  Also caught an 8 yard touchdown pass to give ISU a 17-16 lead.
  • RB James White – White’s numbers weren’t gaudy, but he scored the Cyclones two final touchdowns including the 4 yard game winner.
  • P Kirby Van Der Kamp – Only had two punts, but he made the most of them with an average of 51.5 yards.  The punt in the second quarter pinned Iowa inside the 5 yard line.
  • Offensive Line – Had a rough outing in the opener against UNI, but bounced back with a huge game allowing only 1 sack and 194 rushing yards.

Steele Jantz late game heroics gave ISU the win

Game Balls

  • QB Steele Jantz – Struggled most of the game, but came through with two clutch drives when ISU needed it most.
  • CB Jacques Washington – Made the tackle on the opening kickoff and went on to have 11 tackles on the game.
  • P Kirby Van Der Kamp – Changed field position during the game, 51.2 yard average and three punts inside the 20.
  • DT Patrick Neal – With two DL out for the game, Neal slid over from DE and played DT for the entire game at 250 pounds.  True team player.
  • LB Jake Knott – Even though his arm was clearly still in pain, led team with 15 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss.
  • DE Willie Scott – Willie took advantage of increased playing time with a great performance, 9 tackles and game clinching fumble recovery.
  • WR Josh Lenz – Made huge clutch catch in the back of the endzone to keep Iowa State alive, did a nice job returning punts and kicks.
